Golfology (“we”, “our”, or “the app”) is committed to protecting your privacy. We do not sell or share your personal data with third parties. We only collect and use the minimum information needed to provide the app’s functionality—primarily your name and email address.
1. Information we collect
To create an account and use Golfology, we collect:
- Name — so you can be identified to friends and in rounds.
- Email address — for account access, signing in, and receiving round invitations and related emails (e.g. when someone adds you to a round).
- Password — stored in an encrypted form; we never store or see your actual password.
As you use the app, we also store data that is necessary for the service: your rounds (courses, dates, scores), favourite courses, friends list, round invitations, and—if you enable notifications—a push notification token for your device. This data is used only to run the app (e.g. showing your rounds, sending you an email when you’re invited to a round, or sending a push notification).
2. How we use your information
We use your name and email, and the other data described above, solely to:
- Create and manage your account and let you sign in.
- Provide app features (rounds, courses, friends, invitations, badges).
- Send you round-invitation emails and, if you opt in, push notifications when someone adds you to a round.
- Operate, secure, and improve our systems (e.g. hosting, error logging).
We do not use your personal data for advertising, and we do not share or sell it to third parties for marketing or any other purpose.
3. Sharing of data
We do not share your personal data with third parties for their marketing or for any purpose other than providing the service. The only cases where data may be processed by others are:
- Service providers — e.g. hosting, email delivery (e.g. Amazon SES for round-invitation emails), and push notifications (e.g. Expo). These providers process data only to perform the service for us and under our instructions.
- Legal requirements — if we are required to do so by law or to protect our rights and safety.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data.
4. Data retention and security
We keep your data for as long as your account exists. If you delete your account (via the “Delete account” option in the app), we remove your account and associated personal data from our systems. We use industry-standard measures (e.g. encryption, secure connections) to protect your data.
5. Your rights
You can:
- Update your name and password in the app (My Account).
- Turn push notifications on or off in the app (My Account).
- Delete your account at any time from My Account; this removes your personal data from our systems.

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the app after changes means you accept the updated policy.
